This area of work is well established within Action Factory and projects range in scale from one day parades to long-term festivals. Celebrations and events are useful tools for promoting cohesion, developing community identity and celebrating roots and culture. People get the opportunity to use their abilities to show off, play and be creative.
Bringing people together at fun, arts, or launch events can also be a catalyst for further involvement in the arts, as either audience member, costume designer, face painter or star.
We can work quickly with materials such as willow, parchment and scrap fabric to devise characters and imagery with a shifting group of people. Or at the other end of the spectrum we can develop specific skills with a group such as fibreglass rod structures, digital projections, papier mache gigantes and elaborate animated sculptures
Combining the visual arts with performing arts, music, dance and drama in a community context always brings out new challenges and developing these skills with groups and working towards an event reinforces a sense of belonging.
