Engaging Younger Young People

Devising stories and making puppets enabled pupils aged 7 and 11 years old at three primary schools in Blackburn to think and express themselves about aspects of their lives- the ideal school, better, cleaner and safer neighbourhoods and healthier lifestyles. Recorded on video the puppets were used in short performances mixed with many vox-pop interviews to produce the video 'Engaging Younger Young People' and an exhibition of photographs. Sir Bil Taylor, chair of the Blackburn with Darwen Strategic Partnership's executive said: "The outcomes are clear and very encouraging - the children are very well informed about what makes for a better quality of life and we will be listening very carefully and taking on board as many of their recommendations as we can."
