Festival of Cricket - '180 Not Out'

VIEW PROJECT GALLERY

Commissioned by LOCA - part of the Arts and Creative Economy team within Kirklees Council's Culture and Leisure Services, a creative team from Action Factory explored some of the less well know cricketing terms of reference to create a series of informative banners. These banners featured in the Festival of Cricket held at Dewsbury Museum in Crow Nest Park on Sunday 6th August. The banners were created by people attending workshops at a local youth centre, the central library in Dewsbury and the Dewsbury Museum.

The 'Googly Bowling' machine (homage to Heath Robinson) was created at Action Factory using recycled cycles and decorated at the museum. If you didn't already know a 'dolly' is a really easy catch, a 'duck' is a score of zero, a 'lollipop' is a really easy ball to hit - a 'pudding' is a slow, stodgy pitch and a 'plumb' is when a batsman is clearly LBW (leg before wicket) even when bowled at high speed.

The project engaged with and provided a learning opportunity for over 300 people of differing age and cultural heritage. Participation in this complementary activity enabled non cricketers as well as cricketers to connect with this unversal sport, and for those attending the festival to enjoy an afternoon of music, visual arts, celebration and of course cricket.
