At Action Factory Community Arts we recognise that our greatest resources are the people who work with us either as full and part time staff, board members, freelance artists or volunteers.
Investing in the Action Factory community is a priority for the company and we offer a rang of ways of learning both within projects and across the company as a whole. We provide development review sessions, arts skills and issue based training and opportunities for learning through collaboration.
V-Train
V-Train is a ten week part-time course for people who are interested in developing their skills and experience in participatory arts work. The course covers personal creative development, group work and delivery skills and legal requirements through a mixture of group sessions and placements.
C-Pal
Action Factory Community Arts is one of the core members of C-pal, the regional consortium for Participatory Arts Learning. Working in partnership with other participatory organisations in the North West, we are developing opportunities for continuing professional development for artists in the sector. The consortium is managed by PRESCAP, Preston Community Arts Project and more information is available about the consortium and its members through the c-pal website
Placements
Action Factory Community Arts provides work placements for secondary school students, New Deal placements, placements for arts based college students and University students, including a three year partnership with Zwolle University in Holland. Students are able to shadow and work alongside artists on participatory projects as well as developing their own personal projects.
Volunteers
Volunteers play a vital role in the work of Action Factory Community Arts, providing support for artists and communities to enable them to have the best experience of an Action Factory project. People come to Action Factory Community Arts to volunteer for many reasons, some want to learn new skills for employment in participatory arts, some to meet new people or gain confidence and some to make a difference to their communities. Whatever the reason for volunteering, we always try to meet individuals needs and tailor their volunteering to suit them.
Competence Framework
Action Factory COmmunity Arts has been developing a clear framework to enable artists to mark their development and identify areas of strength and for learning. The framework has been identified as a tool which could be used regionally to enable participatory arts workers to move more easily between arts organisations and develop a more structured career path. C-Pal is looking at ways of developing the framework and the practicalities of implementing it in organisations throughout the North West.
