Children and their families took part in workshops at Action Factory's new premises and worked together to create a Japanese strolling garden. The families, along with two artists from Action Factory worked together to explore the traditions of Japanese strolling gardens and to design and build the temporary garden installation. The project has been funded by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council as part of the C21 Project.
The installation will feature in a community festival called Feast which is planned for August 25th in Corporation Park in Blackburn. Feast will be a free event for everyone in Blackburn and will be a chance for communities to get together in the park and take part in arts activities, watch performances and gather together to have a picnic. The strolling garden installation will be exhibited in the park meaning other community members to experience the magic of the strolling garden.
The project encouraged families to think about their own outdoor spaces in a different and creative way and think about the importance of plants and nature in our lives. It was also the first project to be held at Action Factory's new premises bringing the building to life and adding to the creativity that already happens here.
Moshin, 12, said "I didn't want the week to end, it should be called fun factory!"
One of the parents said "It was great to spend time with my children and be creative with them."
