As part of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council's C21 programme Action Factory hosted a residency of artist Tiarma Dame Ruth Sirait. Tiarma has some of her work exhibited in the Fukouka exhibition, brought out of from Japan for the first time ever to Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery. Tiarma's work is based around the colour pink and how it relates to 'synthetic love' in modern times, she uses fashion as her art form.
The residency started with Tiarma and 3 volunteers - Clarey Ettrick, Lindsey Alden and Dan Walker wearing some of Tiarma's pink costumes in to Blackburn town centre on a busy Saturday! Shoppers were baffled and amused by the four dressed in the pink outfits, advertising the workshops at Action Factory.
Tiarma worked with volunteers the following week to make an outfit to wear at half time at Blackburn Rovers, to present the half time draw and promote her work in the Fukouka exhibition.
Workshops were held at Action Factory where people brought along their own pink items they wanted to decorate and take away with them.
